Benefit for June May The Logan Community will hold a Benefit BBQ meal and auction on July 22, 2007 at Logan School for June May. A lifelong resident of Logan, she worked for over 20 years at Logan School, is a member of and played the organ at the Baptist Church, and is loved by everyone who ever came in contact with her. She has always been a positive and encouraging force in all our lives. May suffered several debilitating strokes early this year and is currently requiring long term care. While a very small portion of her care is covered by insurance, the majority of the costs of long term care are being absorbed by her family. Additionally, the family would like to have a brain scan performed, but the out-of-pocket medical cost exceeds $10,000, said Logan resident Bunny Terry. The benefit will begin at 11 a.m. in the Logan School Cafeteria with a brisket meal. A minimum donation of $2 per plate is requested. There will be a pie auction beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a merchandise, service and gift auction at 2 p.m., Terry said. An account has been set up at First National Bank of New Mexico in Logan for parties wishing to donate funds directly to June and her family. Parties interested in donating auction items with a minimum value of $25 may call Ute Lake Premier Properties at 487-2883, Louise Ayres at 403-8589 or Annette Shivers at 487-9177. Parties interested in volunteering to help at the event may call Shelley at 487-2616 or Robin at 487-2630. Mesalands to build home The corner of Miel de Luna and Ninth Street in Tucumcari is the site where the Mesalands Community College Building Trades Program will soon start construction of a new home on land donated to the Mesalands foundation by the Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corporation. “This is a perfect example of the partnership of the EDC, the College and the community working together for the betterment of Tucumcari,” said Patrick Vanderpool, executive director of EDC. The home will be built by students enrolled in the Mesalands Building Trades classes, allowing them to learn building trades while providing a valuable resource for the community. The home will be sold upon completion. For additional information about Mesalands and the Building Trades Program visit www.mesalands.edu or call 461-4413.
