Firefighters continued to monitor at noon on Saturday the still smoldering Sands Dorsey Building in Tucumcari.
The building caught fire on Friday at about 5 p.m.
Firefighters kept a vigil over the fire throughout the night watering down intermittent bursts of flames.
Fire Chief Mike Cherry said the firefighters would stay at the site, at Main and Second streets, until the fire was out.
Streets to the area have been cordoned off from pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
There is concern that the buildings walls could collaspe, Cherry said.
Already, several brick sections of the upper walls have fallen. Heat from the fire destroyed the mortar and the pressure from water hoses knocked out several rows in different areas of the building.
And the upper section of the brick wall of the building that faces Second Street is leaning slightly toward to the street, Cherry said.
