Crews are changing out wooden poles for ones made of steel.
Lineman Juventino Ortiz installs electrical lines on new steel poles along old Route 66 for Chapman Construction of McKinney, Texas. The $2.166 million project for Farmers Electric Coop covers installation of 187 steel poles on 16.5 miles from a switch station four miles south of San Jon and along Route 66 to Lesbia, nine miles east of Tucumcari, said project liaison Gale Smith of SGS Witter Co. of Lubbock, Texas.
The lines also are being upgraded from 69 kV to 115 kV, said Monte Jackson, crew foreman with Chapman.
Work is scheduled to be complete by the end of June.
