Police step up patrols...
The Tucumcari Police Department will be conducting occupant safety patrols from Monday thorugh Friday. During this time officers will be out enforcing occupant safety, including checks for items such as seat belts and child safety seats, and traffic laws. From now until Nov. 30, police will also be conducting DWI patrols.
Randals a ‘Legend’...
Jimmie Randals of Tucumcari, who was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 1997, was recognized on Wednesday as one industry's "Living Legends" at a special cerermony. The dedication ceremony was part of this year's AQHA World Championship Show at the Oklahoma State Fair Park Arena in Oklahoma City. There was a special introduction and a video presentation. The AQH Hall of Fame inductees include legendary trainers from the show and race industry, judges, leaders, ranchers, artists and others who helped make the American Quarter Horse the world's most popular breed of horse.

Guest speaker Monday on "No Snuff"
The Quay County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Coalition is lending a hand in advance of Thursday’s Great American Smokeout.
On Monday, residents are invited to hear Rick Bender, a great speaker, talk about the immediate and long-term mental and social consequences of using tobacco, said Susan Lease, who heads up Quay County ASAP Coalition.
Its purpose, she said, is to give smokers the means to quit a habit that's dangerous for them, their families, and the community.
His Monday schedule is as follows:
9 a.m.: Quay County Commissioners Chamber, 300 South Third Street
Noon to 1:30 p.m.: Mesalands Community College building A, Room 121, 911 South 10th Street
2:30 p.m.: Tucumcari High School Auditorium, 1100 South 7th Street
Lease also said to check out ASAP's booth at the main door at Rm 121 at Mesalands where they have a "Watch out for the Tobacco-Free-Chew Alternative Giveaway."
