Police step up patrols... The Tucumcari Police Department will be conducting occupant safety patrols from Monday thorugh Friday. During this time officers will be out enforcing occupant safety, including checks for items such as seat belts and child safety seats, and traffic laws. From now until Nov. 30, police will also be conducting DWI patrols. Randals a ‘Legend’... Jimmie Randals of Tucumcari, who was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 1997, was recognized on Wednesday as one industry's "Living  Legends" at a special cerermony. The dedication ceremony was part of this year's AQHA World Championship Show at the Oklahoma State Fair Park Arena in Oklahoma City. There was a special introduction and a video presentation. The AQH Hall of Fame inductees include legendary trainers from the show and race industry, judges, leaders, ranchers, artists and others who helped make the American Quarter Horse the world's most popular breed of horse. On Monday, residents are invited to hear Rick Bender, a great speaker, talk about the immediate and long-term mental and social consequences of using tobacco, said Susan Lease, who heads up Quay County ASAP Coalition. Its purpose, she said, is to give smokers the means to quit a habit that's dangerous for them, their families, and the community.
