Richard Roe Simms Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd., S.E., Albuquerque. Richard Roe Simms, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, died Aug. 31, 2006. Mr. Simms, the son of The Rev. J. Denton Simms and May Harper Simms, was born in Dulce on Sept. 27, 1915. After receiving a B.A. degree from Universityh of New Mexico, he married his childhood sweetheart, Cecelia, and together they ranched in Chromo, Colo., and the New Mexico towns of Edgewood, Logan, Wagon Mound and Truth or Consequences. Mr. Simms was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia Wirt Simms, and brothers D. Harper Simms and Donald Simms. Survivors include a son, Richard (Barbara) W. Simms of Estancia; a daughter, Mary (Don) S. Schutz of Wagon Mound; four grandsons, Jay (Penny) Simms of Flower Mound, Texas, Matthew (Kristen) Simms of Davie, Fla., Mike (Robyn) Schutz of Bellevue, Wash., and Steve Schutz of Renton, Wash.; three great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his brother, David (Betty Lou) Simms, sisters May (Roy) Denham and Margery Miller, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. Arrangements are by The Daniels Company of Albuquerque.
Carlos R. Marquez Services: 10 a.m. today at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Carlos R. Marquez, 71, died Sept. 3 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Marquez was born April 8, 1935 in Bernal. He later moved to Las Vegas, N.M., and then to Tucumcari where he had lived for many years. Mr. Marquez, who was a retired mechanic, is remembered for his love of music. He also was a member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Wilfred Marquez. Survivors include three sons, Carlos (Sara) Marquez Jr. and Johnny Marquez, both of Tucumcari, and Manuel (Linda) Marquez of California; three daughters: Josie Marquez of Espanola, Vivian B. (Lewis) Martinez Sr. of Tucumcari and Charlotte M (Rory) Martinez of Albuquerque; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Margarito Marquez, and his sister, Sendida Lopez, both of Tucumcari. Rosary services were held Tuesday evening. Leo Padget is officiating the services. Burial will be at the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari.
Patricia Ann Howard Pena Services: Have been held. Patricia Ann Howard Pena, 61, of Muleshoe, Texas, died Sept. 1, 2006 at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla. She was born March 20, 1945 in Fresno, Calif. to Paul and Kathleen Whitley Howard. Mrs. Pena was raised in New Mexico and had lived in Muleshoe the last few years. She loved to sew, crochet, quilt and cook; and treasured time with her granddaughters, Michaela and Stephanie. She was a member of the Muleshoe Cowboy Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles Howard and a grandson, Nicholas. Survivors include her husband, Fele Pena of Muleshoe; a son, Steve Seymour; a daughter, Julie Gatewood (Mike) of Canyon, Texas; a stepson, Dick (Cindy) Pena of Muleshoe and four stepdaughters, Morgan Pena, Shawnee Pena and Kelly Pena, all of El Paso, Texas, and Toy Pena of Michigan. Also surviving are a brother, Bud (Sandy) Howard of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Linda Howard of Portales, Pauline (Jack) Weaver and Karen (Ted) Collins, both of Clovis and Natalie (Frank) Gillard of Tucumcari; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many other family and friends. Pallbearers were Bud Howard, Mike Gatewood, Dick Pena, Jack Weaver, C. H. Lowrey and Frank Gillard. Honorary pallbearers were Michaela, Stephanie and Clay. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
