School drug policy progressing
Published: Saturday, December 10th, 2005
Tucumcari High School will soon have a new drug testing policy for its students, one that randomly tests not only athletes but any student involved in any type of activity, not just those sanctioned by the New Mexico Activities Association, school officials said.
This increases the pool of possible testing candidates from 122 athletes to a total of 213 students. Many parents at Monday’s public forum on the issue wanted to increase the pool to include all students, but officials said the cost would be too great, already estimated at a possible $25,000.
Further details of the policy will be revealed when Athletic Director Wayne Ferguson presents the revised version at the next Tucumcari School Board meeting on Dec. 19.
