Tucumcari High School students and Business Professionals of America members Brittany Rodgers and Veronica Montana hang one of their flyers announcing the toy, clothing, coat and food drive going on through Dec. 16.
Tucumcari’s Brittany Rodgers said she couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to not have everything one needs at Christmas. This is one of the reasons she said she is participating a holiday donation project. The other reason is because she is state president of Tucumcari’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) and this serves as one of their many missions. Rodgers, however, said she doesn’t look at the drive as merely a project but something close to her heart. “My friends and I realized how blessed and how fortunate we really are,” said this Tucumcari High School senior. “We want to help those who are less fortunate, for those who Christmas is not an option.” The Tucumcari BPA’s toy, clothing, coat and food drive started Thursday and continues through Dec. 16. Anyone wanting to donate new or slightly used items can drop them off at one of nine locations around town. “Even if people want to leave a bag on their porch, I can get someone to come pick it up. It takes two seconds to pack up old clothes,” Rodgers said, urging anyone who wants to donate anything to give her a call. “This also helps people who need to get rid of clothes,” said fellow BPA member Veronica Montana. “And it makes us come together as a whole as a community. I feel everybody should have a good Christmas, and giving and sharing with the community is a way to do it.” In addition to the toy, clothing, coat and food drive, Rodgers said BPA members are busy helping to make the holidays more memorable for others in town. She said the group made 55 Christmas cards for Meals on Wheels and is planning on constructing several more, enough to give out to the nursing homes in Tucumcari. _____ What: Toy, clothing, coat and food drive Who: Sponsored by the Tucumcari Business Professionals of America When: Now through Dec. 16 Where: Drop off items at any of the following locations: Lowes Lena’s St. Anne’s Church Tonya’s Hair Resort Margie’s Beauty Salon Border Law Office Wells Fargo Bank First Baptist Church Smith Insurance Agency.
