July 9 Fishing Report

Here is the latest fishing report from New Mexico Department of Game and Fish: Santa Rosa Lake: The water continues to clear. Fishing was slow to fair using tubes, lizards and crank baits for smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair using shrimp on trotlines for catfish. There were no reports on other species. Sumner Lake: Fishing was fair for anglers using tubes and salt craws in the rocky areas and fishing for small mouth bass. There were no reports on other species. Ute Lake: The Ute Lake marina has closed temporarily but the boat ramps are open and in good condition. Fishing slowed somewhat this last week, but a few anglers managed to take home walleye and white bass. They were trolling at depths of 12-to-28 feet and using crank baits and spinner/worm rigs. A few smallmouth bass were taken on tubes, top-water baits and cranks. Fishing was slow to fair for catfish with a few taken on shrimp, cut bait and liver.
