The New Mexico Game and Fish Department’s fishing report Conchas Lake Anglers using light spinning tackle and fly rods had great fun with bluegill and smallmouth bass this past week. They were using worms, poppers, small tubes and some wet flies. Fishing was fair trolling wally divers and other crank baits for walleye. Others did well using lead bead jigs tipped with green or chartreuse curly tail grubs. The best reports came from the south side of the lake. Anglers trolling crank baits caught several white bass. Fishing was good using tubes, jerk baits, crank baits, lizards and salt craws for black bass. Most were taken in less than 10 feet of water. Fishing was fair to good using shrimp and stink baits on trotlines for catfish. Ute Lake The Ute Lake marina has closed temporarily but the boat ramps are open and in good condition. Fishing slowed somewhat this last week but a few anglers managed to take home walleye and white bass. They were trolling at depths of 12 to 28 feet and using crank baits and spinner/worm rigs. A few smallmouth bass were taken on tubes, top water baits and crank baits. Fishing was slow to fair for catfish with a few taken on shrimp, cut bait and liver.
