Published: Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005
Conchas Lake Walleye and white bass fishing picked up this past week. The most successful anglers were trolling crank baits at depths of 10 to 20 feet. Crappie fishing was rated as fair to good along the marina. Most were taken on jigs and minnows. Fishing for catfish was good on rod and reel in the central campground area. Best baits were cut bait and shrimp. Anglers using the same baits on trout lines did well at the upper end of the lake. Fishing for black bass was good using tubes, senkos, jerk baits and crank baits in shallow water. Ute Lake The Ute Lake marina has closed temporarily but the boat ramps are open and in good condition. Fishing continued to improve again this past week. Crappie fishing was good at the upper ends of Ute Creek and the Canadian and in a few spots on the main lake. Anglers did very well using minnows, small jigs, grubs and crank baits. Walleye fishing was good for anglers trolling Shad Raps, spinner/minnow and spinner/night crawler combos. Anglers also did well using pink jigs tipped with night crawlers. Anglers trolling for walleye also caught several smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, white bass and crappie. Black bass fishing was also good for anglers using jerk baits, crank baits, tubes and senkos. There were no reports on other species.
