Leo Marshall Scruggs

Leo Marshall Scruggs died March 30, 2005 at Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari. Scruggs was born in 1916 in Denver, Colo. As a youth he began working for Southern Pacific Railroad, where he worked for 42 years, retiring as a conductor. His family said that he was greatly loved and will be missed. Scruggs was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, the Masonic Lodge and Elks Lodge of Tucumcari. Survivors include his wife Celia of 68 years; his son Leo Marshall Scruggs, Jr. (and wife Kay); two daughters Celia Jan Honeycutt (Jake) and Gas S. Wellborn (Donald); seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and one great-great- grandchild the way. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Tucumcari, officiated by Rev. Gay S. Wellborn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ministerial Alliance for the completion of the Three Crosses in construction east of Tucumcari.
