The Temple Baptist Roadrunners raced to a 73-55 victory Saturday over the Logan Longhorns in the Class A Region B finals. Logan stays alive, however, to play Region C champion Animas at 8:15 p.m. tonight at Bernalillo High School in the state quarterfinals. Logan Head Coach Billy Burns said he is aware of the Animas team. "They run a really good 2-3 zone defense," Burns said. "3They have really good, quick athletes." The Roadrunners held Logan to just 10 points in the first quarter. In the second quarter things got off to a bad start for the Longhorns. They turned the ball over three times in a row. Temple Baptist took advantage, increasing their lead. At half time the score was Temple Baptist 36, Logan 23. Jake Abercrombie hit some shots in the third quarter, but the Roadrunners were consistent as they went up by 20 points. Abercrombie fouled out in the third quarter with 15 points. Despite scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter, the Longhorns could only get to within 15 points of Temple Baptist. Marshall Graham, Wes James, Drew Perez and Austin Whetten each scored points in the final period but Temple Baptist kept answering, scoring 18 points of their own. Temple Baptist, ranked second in the state in Class A, was led by Tyler Baker, a 6-foot-8-inch player who scored more than 20 points and hit shots from all over the court. Burns said Baker presented a problem to the Longhorns. "His height and ability are hard for us to match up against, but overall we did a pretty good job of controlling him," Burns said. Logan must beat Animas to advance to the semifinals. "We weren't happy to lose but we know there are more important games ahead," Burns said. Scoring by quarter Logan: 10 13 14 18 — 55 T. Baptist: 17 19 19 18 — 73 Logan Scoring J. Abercrombie 15, D. Perez 15, J.D. Estrada 10, M. Graham 6, W. James 6, A. Whetten 2, J. Franco 1.
