JAMES ZACHARIAH GOOLSBY James Zachariah Goolsby, 67, died at his residence in Logan Wednesday morning Dec. 29, 2004. James Goolsby was born May 6, 1937 in Hawley, Texas. He had lived in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico during his life. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari. In 1962 he was injured in a car wreck and became a quadriplegic. He still continued his life with his hobbies of leather work and watch and clock repair. He was a graduate of Grants High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Beth Anderson. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Rowley of Bluewater; his brother Arthur Goolsby of Farmington and his adopted daughter Berna Dominguez Gutierrez of Logan and her daughters. He is also survived by his brother-in-law To Anderson of Tucumcari and numerous nephews and nieces. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Anne’s. Following the mass his body will be taken to Grants for interment at the Grants Cemetery. LOUIS F. MARES Louis F. “Lawrence” Mares, 80, died Wednesday evening at Laurel Hills Health Care in Tucumcari following an extended illness. Louis Mares as born June 21, 1924 in Tucumcari. He grew up in the Tucumcari area and attended St. Anne’s Parochial School. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for a number of years. He was an active member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Society. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He served during World War II. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2528 of Tucumcari and the Holy Name Society. He is survived by his wife Irene Martinez Mares of Tucumcari; two daughters, Kathleen Lopez (Mucio) of Tucumcari and Patricia Mares (Glen Lucus) of Los Lunas; two sons, Louis Mares (Margaret) of Albuquerque and J.D. Mares of Tucumcari; one sister, Nora Maestas (Marcos) of Albuquerque; and one brother Ambrosio Mares (Anita) of San Francisco. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Rosary will be recited Monday at 7 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church. A Mass of resurrection will be offered Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s. Burial will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.
