DAR salutes veterans

The Daughters of the American Revolution are saluting veterans of more modern incarnation on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. According to Jeannette Maddaford secretary of the organization and event coordinator, the ceremony honoring veterans will be at Veterans’ Park which is at the corner of Third and Main streets. “We are doing this because we want to honor the veterans of the area,” said Maddaford. “They have given so deserving of recognition.” Maddaford said plans for the ceremony include laying a wreath at the memorial, having speeches by dignitaries such as the president of the DAR and other organizations present and the acknowledgement of veterans in the audience and those that have died. Maddaford said in addition to the DAR, also present and taking part in the salute to the area veterans will be members of the Tucumcari Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
