The Tucumcari United Way has put their United Way Thermometer up at the base of the Tucumcari Lowe’s Grocery sign. According to local United Way president Doyle Frasier, the thermometer is a long-standing tradition in Tucumcari where people can check the progress of how fund raising is going for the Tucumcari United Way. Frasier said there has been a thermometer-type of sign in Tucumcari to gage the success of the fund drive since 1988. “We’ve done it for years,” said Frasier. “It hasn’t always been here. It’s been a lot of different places. It was over at the Post Office and at Dr. Frasier’s office.” Frasier said he feels that the location on the main Lowe’s Grocery sign is an extremely good one which is easily seen by motorists on Route 66 Boulevard. Director Arlene Fry said the sign will be updated regularly until the target amount for the fund drive of $25,000 is reached. Fry said people can donate whenever they want by contacting her at 461-3662 or they can take part in some of the fund raisers the United Way will be putting on like the auction which is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 1 in the lobby of the Wells Fargo Bank. The event which will begin at 6 p.m. will, according to Fry have over 145 different items to be auctioned off. “It’s always great fun,” said Fry. Fry also said there would be door prizes which participants had to be present to win.
