Man killed in I-40

According to New Mexico State Police, a tractor trailer traveling in the westbound lanes of I-40 near milepost 314, drifted into the eastbound lanes Sunday morning, striking a sport utility vehicle driven by Billy Wayne Garrett of Oklahoma. Garrett was killed on impact. The driver of the tractor trailer, Zhi Yan Wu of California, and a male passenger were transported to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital. State Police officials said they do not know why the tractor trailer drifted into the eastbound lanes. The accident is still under investigation. In a follow-up to the traffic death that occurred on Saturday, Sept. 11 eight miles east of Tucumcari when a man leaped from a moving Greyhound Bus, the man has been identified by the New Mexico State Patrol as Joel Rocha Marco Valdez a Mexican national who boarded the bus in Phoenix.
