Rita L. Smith Rita L. Smith, 84, died Saturday morning, July 31, 2004 following an extended illness. Rita Smith was born July 15, 1920 at Paducah, Texas. She was a member of the Logan First Baptist Church. She had been a homemaker. She was preceded in death in 1997 by her husband W.J. Smith. She is survived by her son Wendell Smith (Patricia) of Tucumcari and Jake White of Tucumcari. In addition she is survived by two grandchildren of Tucumcari. Funeral services were Tuesday morning in the Dunn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Wes Steward of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Following the services, burial took place at the San Jon Cemetery where she was buried next to her husband. Arrangements by Dunn Funeral Home. Frankie Joe Padilla Frankie Joe Padilla, 47, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 in Clayton. Frankie Joe Padilla was born Dec. 22, 1956 in Clayton to Joe Padilla, Jr. and Mary Nora Padilla. He married Linda Mae White on Dec. 27, 1975, in Tucumcari. He was a veteran having served seven years in the United States Navy. He worked most of his life in heating and air conditioning in the Clovis School District. He was preceded in death by; his wife in 1994; one brother Michael Anthony Padilla in 1995; both grandfathers and one grandmother. He is survived by; two sons Brandon Padilla of Tucumcari, Ty Padilla of Tucumcari; his parents, Joe and Mary Padilla of Clayton; three brothers, Danny Padilla of Clayton, Morris Padilla of Las Vegas, and Michael Padilla of Clayton; one sister, Annabelle Padilla of Clayton, Carol Baca of Clovis. In addition he is survived by his paternal grandmother, his father- and mother-in-law, a niece and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Rosary was recited Sunday, Aug. 1 and a funeral Mass was Monday morning, Aug. 2. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Clayton. with Fr. James McGowan officiating. Burial was at Clayton Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Hass Funeral Home.
