FCCLA competes in Melrose
Published: Sunday, March 21st, 2004
Jody Lamm, a teacher at Tucumcari Middle School, will be taking members of the middle school’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America club to Melrose today for a district tournament.
The students will be competing in a variety of events designed to assess their family and career skills. One group of middle school students has already created a babysitting business that will be judged in the entrepreneurship category.
Some other events include cake decorating, fashion display and fruit and vegetable tray preparation.
The FCCLA used to be the Future Homemakers of America. Lamm said that the emphasis has changed over the years from the home to broader community concerns, thus the name was changed to reflect that. Lamm will be taking 16 students to the district copmpetition.
