The Lady Longhorns finished second in the regional tournament Saturday and earned a berth in the Class 1A state championship playoffs.
Logan will meet Animas at 1 p.m. Thursday at Goddard High School in Roswell.
“They are pretty tough,” said Logan head coach Bridget Rea. “They are solid all the way around.”
Logan fought off Roy in a five game regional semifinal match at Des Moines. The Lady Longhorns fell behind 8-3 in the fifth game before rallying back and pulling out the match 25-15, 21-25, 12-25, 28-26, 15-12.
The win guaranteed the Lady Longhorns a spot in the state playoffs. The top two teams from each region advance.
The Longhorns lost the regional final game to two-time defending state champion Des Moines 25-6, 25-12, 25-12.
Des Moines will represent the region as the No. 1 seed.
Rea said she is confident with her team’s play entering Thursday’s match.
“You get to this level and everybody is going to be strong,” she said. “But we have a good draw even coming out second, we are on the better side of the bracket.”
