A sign from above

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:6-11 In the media and around town, I spotted signs that begin with “Got ___?” and included everything from milk to purpose to life. I have an idea for a new sign: "Got Problems? Who among is there that doesn’t have problems? The answer to that is no one as we all face difficulties in our life. There are times that we feel like Job with problems heaped upon us with no end in sight. If that is the case, then why don’t we just throw in the towel and be done with it all like Job’s wife suggested? The book of Job tells of his questioning God and yet in the end, the Lord restored him. Since the Lord made the earth and everything in it, He knows what is in store for us and how to help us through all sorts of problems. Our restoration may not come in the same way as Job’s, but He will see each of us through our problems. As I shared in previous weeks, it’s been a particularly trying time in my life right now, but through it all, I felt the Lord’s touch in my life and a peace despite it all. With everything that happened, I first felt Satan's fiery darts. It is important to know our enemy. In Ephesians 6:12 we read: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Once you know your enemy, it is time to take action. Ephesians 6:13-18 tells us: “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” I spent half of one night in prayer as I tried to ward off the attacks of Satan. There were some things that were weighing heavy on my heart and when I started worrying about the situation and tossing and turning in bed, I knew I had to do something. I started praying about it and then finally drifted off to sleep in the midst of a sentence. The next day, I was amazed and astounded at how rested I felt despite the lack of sleep. I knew without a doubt that it was the power of God that kept me going that day. The only reason I mention this is so the Lord will receive all the praise and glory because He is the one that kept me going when yet another problem was heaped upon my plate. Many prayers were offered on my behalf during the past month. I can’t begin to emphasize the importance of praying for one another. As James stated, “pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16) Yes, those prayers were answered as my soul continues to heal. Our Lord is always near when we need Him. In Jeremiah 33:2-3 we read, “Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name; Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not”. He will always show us the way when we have problems. Got problems? Get God!
