A Tucumcari man is wanted by police after 20 grams of heroin were found at a relative’s house Tuesday evening. Tucumcari police and the Region Five Drug Task Force obtained a search warrant and entered a house at 1301 S. Seventh St. in Tucumcari at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. According to a police incident report, about 20 grams of heroin were found at the house located two blocks from Tucumcari High School. Sgt. Jay Longley of the drug task force said the street value of the heroin would be about $4,000. Tucumcari Police Chief Dennis Townsend said authorities believe the drugs belong to Sylvan Hendren, 48, of Tucumcari. Townsend said Hendren was not present when police entered the house where his relatives live. A warrant has been issued for Hendren’s arrest on counts of trafficking heroin, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Townsend said police are unsure of Hendren’s whereabouts, but suspect he is not in Tucumcari. He was unsure where Hendren received the drugs and what he had planned for them. Hendren’s daughter declined comment Wednesday. Townsend said this was a large drug find for the authorities. “Drug wise, that’s a good stroke,” he said. “It’s been a long time since we got that much.” Tucumcari police also served a drug related search warrant Monday at 707 E. Turner in Tucumcari and made three arrests. According to a police report, Jessie Jolanda, 46, and Kurt Musland, 41, were arrested for trafficking meth and possession of marijuana. David Arnett, 34, was arrested for possessions of drug paraphernalia. Townsend said in the past week 42 grams of marijuana, meth and heroin has been seized from several locations throughout the city.
