Police believe alcohol is involved in the accidental drowning death of a 20-year-old Logan man at Ute Lake’s Oldham Overlook over the weekend. Family members told police Amner Moreno-Ortiz was a poor swimmer. He was last seen around 4:30 p.m. Saturday by his aunt, who watched him enter the water and never return. After family members realized Moreno-Ortiz was missing, they contacted the state park service who sent out a patrol boat to assist with the search. New Mexico State Police Lt. Nathan Wallace said a fisherman out on the lake happened to have his underwater camera, which was used to locate the body. After free-dive attempts to retrieve the body failed, Wallace said a state park employee dressed in proper scuba diving attire was finally able to bring Moreno-Ortiz to the surface around 5 p.m. An official toxicology report is still pending.
