ALBUQUERQUE — Senior guard G.A. Tucker scored 21 points, going 5-for-5 from 3-point range, and junior guard LaNay Crenshaw added 14 points and six assists as Fort Sumner’s girls defeated Elida 45-31 on Friday in the first of six games in the inaugural Dinty Romero Tip-off Classic at The Pit. It was the season opener for both teams.

The Vixens trailed 19-17 at halftime, but broke a 24-24 tie with five minutes left in the third quarter on a 19-4 run that carried until the final two minutes of the game.

The Lady Tigers were led by nine points from senior guard Shealton Veo-Chenault.

The event matches the state champions on both the boys and girls sides — Class B against Class 1A, Class 2A against Class 3A and Class 4A against Class 5A.
