CLOVIS — Portales High finished second in a field of two full teams in boys competition and third out of four teams in girls play on Thursday in the Clovis Invitational at Municipal Golf Course.

Clovis JV finished at 356 to take the boys title over the Rams, who shot a four-man total of 370. Tucumcari did not have a full squad, although the Rattlers’ Gabe Montoya shot the day’s best score with a 78.

Jackson Powers led the Rams with a 91, followed by Alan Bolstad and Ty Bergman at 92 and Eric O’Rear and Jamaal Howard at 95.

Texico took the girls’ team title, shooting 383 to 391 for Clovis, 404 for the Lady Rams and 423 for Hobbs.

Lady Wolverines senior Erin Scanlan was the individual medalist, shooting an 86, while PHS junior Tylar Rowley was second at 43-47 — 90 and sophomore Paige Hartman tied for third at 45-47 — 92. Both were good enough to earn state tournament legs.

Rounding out the Lady Rams’ scores were Gabby Espinoza at 109, Alexa Herrington at 113 and Kaitlyn Massey and Haley Bonner at 118.

PHS squads return to action on Monday and Tuesday in the Roswell Invitational.
