The Portales Rams wasted little time putting West Las Vegas away Friday night.
The Rams scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings and cruised to an 11-2 victory over the Dons at Ram Field.
Today, Portales (3-5) hosts what amounts to a triangular, taking on West Las Vegas at 11 a.m. and Eunice at 4 p.m., with the Dons and Cardinals meeting in the middle contest.
Senior right-hander James Salgado benefited from Portales’ early offense, tossing a complete-game four hitter with two walks and three strikeouts. The Dons got their only runs off him in the top of the fifth.
The Rams scored three in the first and made it 6-0 with three more in the second, highlighted by a two-run double from A.J. Marquez. Portales benefited from seven walks in the first two innings.
Salgado belted a two-run triple in the third, and the Rams added three more runs in the fourth.
“We played pretty decent,” Rams coach Arturo Ontiveros said. “It was probably our best game of the year. We’re just hoping to keep on improving as we go.”
Portales has won three of four since opening the season with doubleheader losses at Roswell Goddard and Clovis.
