• Thursday's semifinals: Fort Sumner def. Cliff 63-39; Tatum def. Animas 65-37

• Of note: The teams met in the EPAC tournament at Greyhound Arena, with Fort Sumner winning 58-54 — the Lady Coyotes' only loss. … Vixens coach Matt Moyer led the Fort Sumner football team to the Class 1A championship last fall, its fifth title in six years. … The Vixens were ranked No. 1 for much of the season, but slipped behind Tatum after a February loss to district rival Melrose. Their No. 1 seed was ostensibly the result of the win over Tatum. … Moyer said the Lady Coyotes normally play a 2-3 zone, but he added of Tatum coach Mike Majors: “I’m sure we'e going something a little different. I’m sure he's some things he's going to try.” … The Vixens are seeking their first state title since 2005. Tatum, the Class 1A runnerup in 2006, last won a championship in 1988. … Senior G Sarah Stinnett and junior G G.A. Tucker lead the Vixens, both averaging in the mid-to-upper teens. … Top players for the Lady Coyotes include 6-foot sophomore P Devanne Sours, 5-8 junior P Monica Rameriz, and 5-6 freshman G Karina Cardenas.
