ANDREWS, Texas — Sixth-ranked Farwell started the Class 1A Division I playoffs with a convincing win.

Landry Actkinson had four of Farwell’s nine 3-pointers and finished with 21 points in a 77-36 win Friday over Reagan County in the Region I area round.

Luke Carpenter added 17 points for the Steers (28-2), who had a first-round bye. The Steers hit six 3-pointers in the first-quarter en route to a 28-9 lead.

Farwell bumped its lead to 46-18 to halftime.

“We played with a lot of pressure on the guards,” Farwell coach Shane Perkins said. “We forced a lot of turnovers.

“When you get a double-digit lead, that pressure starts wearing teams down.”

Farwell hit six of its nine 3-pointers during a 28-9 first quarter.

“They were packing it in with a zone,” Perkins said. “Our shooters were able to get open shots.”

Anthony Marquez led Reagan County (15-17) with 12 points.

Farwell will face the winner of Plains and Iraan next week in the regional quarterfinal.
