G.A. Tucker scored 21 points and Sarah Stinnett added 17 and Fort Sumner held off Melrose 56-53 Monday at Greyhound Arena in a playoff for the top seed in this week’s District 3-1A girls tournament.

The Vixens (22-3) will host the tourney champion-ship game at 7 p.m. Friday. Melrose (17-9) will entertain Logan in a 7 p.m. semifinal on Wednesday.

Fort Sumner scored the first six points of the fourth quarter for a 50-31 lead, but Melrose went on a 13-0 run — fueled by two 3-pointers and a 2-pointer from Kelsey Draper in a span of 45 seconds —to pull to 50-44 with three minutes left.

The Lady Buffs got within a point twice in th final minute, but Tucker and Stinnett each made two free throws to secure the win.

Draper led the Lady Buffs with 19 points, while Caley Barnard scored 15 and Cara Barnard added 13.

Recap: The Lady Panthers, seeded third in the four-team district tournament despite an 18-4 overall record coming in, got 15 points each from seniors Yesenia Gonzalez and Shelby Kimball in advancing to a 7 p.m. semifinal game on Wednesday at Dora.

Erin Deck, another senior, added 11 points for Jal, which led 31-16 at halftime and outscored the Lady Broncos 12-0 in the third quarter.

Senior Tori Tucker led Floyd with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
