7 p.m. tonight at Ram Athletic Center

Radio: KSEL-FM 105.9

Last time out: Ruidoso lost to Portales 60-39 on Saturday. Portales lost to Lovington 53-39 on Tuesday.

Warriors to watch: Terrance Shields, 5-10, Jr., F

About Ruidoso: The Warriors are young and struggling this year. Shields is the main threat for Ruidoso, with other players pretty balanced, according to Portales coach Mark Gallegos.

What’s coming: Gallegos said he talked with his team about not looking past the game with Ruidoso. “We worked on being better prepared for their 1-3-1 zone, which gave us some problems up there,” said Gallegos. “We also want to try and push the ball up the court better.”

What’s at stake: Portales needs a win to force a playoff with Lovington for the regular-season district title.

Girls

Ruidoso (15-8, 1-2 District 4-3A) at Portales (14-9, 1-2)

5:30 p.m. tonight at Ram Athletic Center

Radio: KSEL-FM 105.9

Last time out: Ruidoso lost to Portales 46-34 on Saturday. Portales beat Lovington 45-29 on Tuesday.

Lady Warriors to watch: Brittanie Vega, 5-6, Jr., G; Lyndsey Saenz, 5-5, So., G; Abriana Herrera, 5-8, Sr., P

About Ruidoso: A very athletic team with both quickness and height. Portales coach Clay Stout said they’ll likely hit the Lady Rams with lots of different defenses. In Saturday’s game Herrera led the Lady Warriors with 11.

What’s coming: “They play very similar to Lovington with lots of traps, they foul a lot and we’ll have to protect the ball,” Stout said. “We have to always be aware and never get caught off guard.” Stout said his team feels like they didn’t play their best game in Ruidoso and feel like they can guard the Lady Warriors better.

What’s at stake: The Lady Rams clinch the regular-season district title with a win.
