When: 7 p.m. today at The Rock
Radio: KCLV-AM 1240, KTQM-FM 99.9
Last time out: Clovis has been idle since opening its District 4-5A schedule Friday with an 80-71 win at Hobbs. The back-to-back 4A champion Coyotes won their seventh-straight, beating Artesia 66-61.
Last meeting: February 2010, the Coyotes routed the Cats 72-46 at Roswell.
Switching schedules: The Cats were originally scheduled to play Carlsbad at The Rock on Tuesday, but due to inclement weather the teams will play as part of a varsity doubleheader on Saturday. The teams will then move to Clovis for games on Tuesday.
Clovis coach J.D. Isler didn’t want a back-to-back games, but weather forced the school’s hand.
“We’re running out of days, and you sure don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you’re playing back-to-back district games,” Isler said. “We didn’t have a lot of options.”
Common opponents: The Wildcats and Coyotes have faced Hobbs, Goddard, Artesia and Portales. Clovis is 4-0, while Roswell High is 8-1 with a 57-55 loss to Portales in December.
Roswell High players to watch: “I think they’re not nearly as big as they’ve been the last three years,” Isler said. “They have a really good guard in (senior Deyton) De La Cerda. They run a lot of stuff through him. They’ll set some double screens for him when he’s got the ball. We’ve got to do a decent job on him.”
