Portales is going to have to wait a little longer to open District 4-3A play.

Ruidoso High, which was to host Saturday’s varsity doubleheader, had a plumbing issue related to inclement weather and postponed the games.

The games will be rescheduled during a 10 a.m. Monday conference call, Portales coach Mark Gallegos said. He would like to move the games to Saturday. That would require moving a non-district boys game at Dexter, but Gallegos didn’t think that would be a giant obstacle.

The doubleheader against the Warriors was originally set for Friday, but pushed back following Gov. Susana Martinez’ recommendation schools close Friday to minimize a statewide natural gas and electricity shortage.

Gallegos said Portales High was willing to trade sites — host on Saturday, and let Ruidoso host their next scheduled doubleheader Feb. 18 — but the offer was declined
