What: Clovis (14-5) at Alamogordo (10-10), 7 p.m. today, and vs. Roswell Goddard (1-18), 7 p.m. Saturday, at Rock Staubus Gym.
Radio: KCLV-FM 99.1.
Last time out: The Lady Wildcats beat Santa Fe Indian School 49-41 on Saturday in the Milk Cow Classic at The Rock. Artesia defeated Santa Teresa 40-33 at home on Tuesday, while Goddard was slated to host Carlsbad on Thursday night.
Last meeting: The Lady Cats won at Artesia 61-46 in January 2009, with last year’s game at The Rock postponed and eventually canceled due to snow. CHS routed the Lady Rockets 71-17 last year at Roswell.
Of note: Artesia has lost three games to the other teams in District 4-5A — 59-49 and 38-33 to Carlsbad, and 55-30 to Hobbs. … Goddard’s only win was a 42-35 verdict over Los Alamos in a tournament at Roswell on Dec. 28. The Lady Rockets have scored between 40 and 44 points nine times, but have also been held under 30 points nine times. … Tonight will be Clovis’ first true road game since a 57-40 loss on Dec. 16 at unbeaten Canyon, currently ranked No. 1 in Texas Class 4A. Eight of the Lady Cats’ last nine games have been at The Rock, with the other a neutral-court win over Pojoaque on Jan. 8 at Portales. … Junior G Kirsti Shough, who suffered two fractures in her right thumb against Alamogordo on Jan. 14, could be back for the Lady Cats’ district opener against Hobbs next Friday. Shough is the team’s top 3-point shooter, and its third-leading scorer with an average of around 8 ppg.
Quotable: “Goddard’s not too strong, but Artesia has a little more to worry about. We have to step up and play some good basketball, especially on the road. I’ve been pushing (the team) all week to ‘stay hungry.’” — CHS girls coach Jeff Reed.
