TEXICO — Cooper Gandy scored 15 points — all on 3-pointers — and Tatum held off a late charge by Elida for a 49-48 win over the Tigers in one of four boys consolation bracket games on Thursday in the EPAC tournament.
The Coyotes (4-7) built a 15-8 lead at the quarter and still led by six points in the final period before Elida mounted a late charge which came up short.
Junior Donnie Roy added 12 points for the Coyotes. Elida got 16 points from senior Jordyn Tivis, 15 from senior Alex Varela and 12 from sophomore Taylor Boone.
Logan 46, Melrose 39 — Junior guard Rylan Calbert’s 3-point play with about two minutes left started a game-ending 9-0 run that lifted the Longhorns past the Buffaloes in a seesaw matchup.
Calbert finished with 12 points and senior center Andy Rinestine scored 10 for the Longhorns (5-3), who got points from 10 players. Juniors Daniel Lyons and Richard Rush scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Melrose (1-11).
Floyd 34, Grady 21 — The Broncos blanked Grady in the second quarter, erasing a one-point deficit, before pulling away in the second half.
Senior center Justin Rogers led Floyd (8-5) with 15 points. Junior forward Cody Poncho led Grady (5-8) with eight points.
Clayton 77, Clovis Christian 28 — The top-seeded Yellowjackets, upended by San Jon on Wednesday, bounced back with an easy victory over the Eagles.
Clayton (6-3) opened with the game’s first 14 points before senior Kenny Duong hit a 3-pointer late in the first period for CCS (1-7).
Sophomore James Hidalgo, who had four of the team’s six 3-pointers, and senior T.J. Simpson scored 16 points each and senior Efe Decosta added 10 for the Yellowjackets. Junior Kevin Naceanceno had a pair of 3-pointers and 10 points for Clovis Christian.
