TEXICO — Rane Carpenter led a balanced Farwell attack with 15 points and the Steers defeated Floyd 58-38 on Saturday night to capture the boys championship in the Citizens Bank Border Shootout.
The game was tight throughout the first half. Farwell (5-0) led 24-23 at halftimie, then outscored the Broncos 21-9 in the third period to take control with Octavio Chavez scoring nine of his 13 points in the period.
Luke Carpenter added 12 points for the Steers. Justin Rogers led the Broncos (3-2) with 13 points.
Clovis JV 62, Logan 57 (3rd) — Duan Cole scored 17 points and the Wildcats held off Logan for third place.
Marshall Winn added 11 points and Diego Romero scored 10 for the Clovis JV (2-1). The Longhorns (1-2) were led by 15 points from Andy Rinestine.
Texico 56, Dexter 55 (5th) — Connor Doolittle scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the final quarter, including three 3-pointers, and the host Wolverines (3-1) rallied to get past Dexter.
The Demons (1-2) outscored Texico 18-9 in the third quarter to erase a six-point halftime deficit. Steven Marquez scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half for Dexter, while Tyler Miles added 11 points.
Lucas Walthers added 11 points and Mitchell Harrison 10 for Texico.
Bovina 61, Melrose 49 (7th) — Senior Dorian Vela led four Mustangs in double figures with 19 points as Bovina picked up its first win of the season.
Gael Vela added 14 points, Andrew Marrufo scored 11 and Jose Lara chipped in 10 for the Mustangs (1-3), who took control by outscoring Melrose 17-8 in the first quarter.
The Buffaloes (0-3) were led by Gus Payne and Richard Rush, each of whom finished with 11 points.
