Texico (3-2) at Hagerman (5-0)

Last meeting: 2009, Texico defeated the Bobcats 21-14 at Hagerman.
Last week: The Wolverines rolled over Gruver, Texas, 33-7. The Bobcats survived their closest game of the season, edging Santa Rosa 28-27.
Of note: Senior QB Isaac Bejarano, senior WR Michael Garcia and senior RB Leonard Hamilton lead the Bobcats’ offense, which is averaging nearly 38 points per game. “They like to spread you out and hope you overpursue,” Texico coach Ryan Autrey noted. … Hagerman returns several players from its 2009 Class 1A state championship team, Autrey noted. … Texico is making steady progress, Autrey said. “Every week we’re getting a little better,” he said. “Last week’s game allowed us to get some kids in who haven’t had a lot of (game) reps, and that was nice.” … After an open date next week, the Wolverines begin District 2-2A play Oct. 15 at Santa Rosa.

Fort Sumner (5-0) at Loving (3-2)

Last meeting: 2009, the Foxes posted a 29-17 win over the Falcons at home.
Last week: Fort Sumner blitzed the Clovis sophomores 43-8. The Class 2A Falcons absorbed a 49-13 shellacking at the hands of 2A’s top-ranked team, Tularosa.
Of note: Fort Sumner will have to deal with Loving’s speed, coach Matt Moyer said, notably junior running back Zane Walker, who returned two kickoffs for scores in a win over Jal. … The Falcons were struggling big-time a couple of years ago, but are coming into their own with a strong junior class. “Most of these kids have been playing since they were freshmen,” Moyer said.

Melrose (4-1) at Springer (2-3)
When: 7 p.m. today
Last meeting: 2009, the Buffaloes won 76-6.
Last week: Melrose blew out Reserve 52-0 in a game played at Mescalero. The Red Devils, meantime, upended Tatum 22-14 at home.
Of note: Buffs coach Dickie Roybal said he was able to scout Springer at the recent 8-man Showcase in Menaul. “They have decent size in the line and lots of speed in the backfield,” he said of the Red Devils. … Junior RB Leonard Harris is Springer’s top threat. … Melrose will regain the services of tight end Aaron Dearing and center Kyle Jacobs from injury. “If we continue to execute like we have been, we’ll be OK,” Roybal said. … The Red Devils are hoping to build some momentum. They are in the second week of a stretch of four out of five games at home.

CCS (5-0) at Vaughn (0-4)

Last meeting: 2003, the Eagles beat Vaughn in a game ending at halftime on the 45-point lead rule.
Last week: CCS destroyed Hondo 48-0, the game ending at halftime on the 45-point lead rule. Vaughn was punished by Roy/Mosquero 58-13.
Of note: This is the second consecutive opponent for the CCS Eagles also nicknamed “Eagles.. … Clovis Christian, top-ranked in six-man, has ended each of its games early on the 45-point rule. “We play the very best team we’ve played every week in practice,” CCS coach Jason Swann said. “We try to simulate situations that would be difficult during a game.” … Swann said Vaughn’s best player is Jesus Munoz, a junior running back.

Seagraves (0-5) at Farwell (4-1)

Last meeting: The teams have never met.
Last week: Then-No. 4 New Deal (now ranked third) earned a 21-0 win over the Steers.
Of note: Farwell is seeking a bounce-back after losing a tough one to New Deal, a game in which the Steers played well for much of the contest. “We just made too many mistakes,” Steers coach Mike Prokop said of the loss. “They (Lions) had a lot to do with that. But overall, the effort was good.” … Seagraves lost to New Deal earlier in the year. “They’re struggling, but it’s one of those teams that can come up and bite you,” Prokop said. … Farwell opens district play next week at Bovina.

Iraan (3-1) vs. Bovina (3-2)

Last meeting: The teams have never met.
Last week: The Mustangs absored a 62-13 loss at the hands of Sundown. Iraan posted a 35-0 win over El Dorado.
Of note: The game was scheduled with both teams needing to fill a date. They will probably meet next year, although Bovina coach Hector Guevara said a site is yet to be determined. … The Mustangs are licking their wounds from last week’s loss, their second in a row, but they don’t get much of a break against the Braves. “It’ll be another tough game,” Gueveara said. “We’ve just got to start playing sound ball like we did earlier in the year.” … Guevara said the Braves are not as big as Sundown, but probably have as much talent in the skill positions. Iraan has had a good history in postseason football in recent years. … QB Zane Hernandez, RB Sam Hernandez and QB/RB Drew Fellows are among Iraan’s top players, Guevara said. The Hernandezes are brothers.

Muleshoe (4-0) at Bushland (2-2)
When: 7:30 p.m. (CDT) today in a District 1-2A Division I clash.
Last meeting: 2008, Muleshoe beat the Falcons 28-14 in the first round of the Class 2A Division I playoffs en route to the state championship.
Last week: Both teams opened District 1-2A Division I play with wins — Muleshoe defeated Lubbock Roosevelt 31-7 while Bushland overwhelmed Slaton 49-0.
Of note: Despite its overall record, the Mules expect a tough test against the Falcons, coach David Wood said, noting that senior QB Brett Wilhelm returned from a thumb injury in last week’s win. He went 18-of-25 for 296 yards passing, with four touchdowns. … The Falcons outgained Slaton 451-177 overall. … Senior QB Cooper Washington gave Muleshoe a big lift after sitting out the first half of last week’s game with a shoulder injury. The Mules trailed 7-6 when Washington dressed for the second half. “He gave us a spark,” Wood said. “(Teammates) responded well; it wasn’t so much (anything) he was doing.” … Wood said Washington’s shoulder is still not fully healed, “but he’s better than he was last week.”

Dora (1-4) at Hondo (2-3)

Floyd (0-5) at Logan (1-3)

Notes: Floyd’s 16 points against Foothill marked the first time the Broncos had scored since the Aug. 27 opener against Springer. … Broncos senior quarterback Hunter Terry is the Broncos’ leading passer and rusher. Floyd has split its last six meetings against the Longhorns. … The Broncos’ depth troubles continued this week — they will have eight players available for the game — as one player is out with a concussion and another quit the squad, Roybal said.
