The Portales Rams were ranked sixth in the New Mexico High School Coaches Association preseason football poll released Wednesday.

The Rams are coming off a 3-8 season.

Defending state champion Lovington is ranked No. 1 in 3A.

In volleyball, Portales is ranked second behind Shiprock.

In 6-man football, Elida is ranked fourth.

In Class 1A volleyball, Elida is ranked second behind Animas. Defending state champion Tatum is fourth and Fort Sumner fifth.
