LAS VEGAS, N.M. — A pair of Portales players saw action as the North and South split their Class 3A basketball doubleheader at John A. Wilson Gymnasium.

The games, organized by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association, are for outgoing seniors.

Roxanne Silva of Socorro High led the way with 29 points for the South girls, but it wasn’t enough to stop a dominant performance for the North, which led 43-29 at the half.

Deanna Montoya of Pojoaque had a team-high 22 points, and was chosen as MVP along with Silva.

Mirana Median of Santa Fe Indian School added 12. Ashley Hernandez of Portales went 1-of-2 from the free throw line and dished six assists.

In the boys game, the Hope Christian trio of Matt Murphy (18), Christian Schlenker (12) and Tristan Perry (11) paced the South, which led 46-36 at the break.

The most valuable players were Nathan Moore of New Mexico Military Institute, who scored 12 for the South, and Tim Makotte of Pojoaque, who had 12 to lead the North.

Shawn Carrasco of Portales scored six points for the South.
