ALBUQUERQUE — Clovis High’s boys won their play-in match over Manzano 8-1 on Friday before losing in the quarterfinals to second-seeded Mayfield 8-1.

The Wildcats entered the 10-team field seeded seventh. Mayfield advanced to a semifinal match this morning against eitherh third-seeded La Cueva or sixth-seeded Rio Rancho.

No particulars were available on either of the Cats’ matches Friday night.

 

PHS squads blanked — In Class 1A/3A state quarterfinals at Albuquerque Academy, Santa Fe Prep handed Portales’ teams a pair of 9-0 losses in the quarterfinals.

Santa Fe Prep was the top-ranked boys team coming in, while the Rams squeaked in at the eighth seed as one of two at-large squads. The Griffins lost only 14 games in sweeping the nine matchups from Portales in advancing to today’s 8 a.m. semifinal against either New Mexico Military or Las Vegas Robertson.

The fourth-seeded Lady Griffins advanced to a semifinal matchup against either top-seeded St. Michael;s or No. 8 Hope Christian, also scheduled for 8 a.m. today. Championship matches are on tap for the afternoon.
