Tori Tucker did a little bit of everything Tuesday night for the Floyd Lady Broncos.
Tucker, a 5-foot-9 junior, had 27 points, 10 rebounds and nine steals Tuesday as Floyd rallied to beat Des Moines 65-54 in a Class 1A quarterfinal contest.
She also broke the Lady Demons’ fullcourt press countless times and got two assists.
“I’ve coached our top six players since sixth grade,” Floyd coach Adam Terry said. “They’re a special group and know what you’re thinking after all that time.”
Unbeaten Magdalena is next for the sixth-seeded Lady Broncos (21-7), who are seeking their first state title since winning back-to-back Class 1A titles in 1989 and 1990.
The second-seeded Lady Steers scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to put away pesky Grady 65-49 Tuesday.
Kameron Armstrong led Magdalena (28-0) with 18 points while Keanda Chavez and Nicole Hardy had 13 and 12, respectively.
“I think about my team and how bad we want state,” Armstrong said. “We’ve worked hard this year and the past five years. Defense is our main goal and it creates offense.”
Against Des Moines, Tucker had two 3-pointers and Tanna Whitecotton, who scored 15 points, added another in a decisive 13-3 Floyd run early in the fourth quarter.
Des Moines led 28-27 at halftime and 38-35 after three quarters.
“We had too many turnovers in the first half,” Terry said. “We just kept the ball in the second half.”
Ann Vincent led third-seeded Des Moines (18-5) with 16 points.
