The New Mexico state basketball tournaments get under way Tuesday morning, as top-seeded Portales opens up against St. Michael's in a Class 3A contest at The Pit. Five other area teams will be in action, with Clovis rounding out the night against Gallup in an 8:15 p.m. contest at the Santa Ana Star Center.

The boys tournament has three local games when the tournament tips off Wednesday. Defending 1A champ Fort Sumner faces Des Moines in a 2:30 p.m. game. The Clovis Wildcats face third-seeded Valley at The Pit in a 4:45 p.m. affair and Melrose rounds out the day with a 7:15 p.m. showdown with Springer.
