Shawn Carrasco lead the Rams to their first District 4-3A win with 11 points as Portales beat Dexter 49-33 on Tuesday.
The Rams held the Demons scoreless in the second quarter en route to a 30-8 halftime advantage.
“It was a good game because we jumped on them early,” Portales Coach Mark Gallegos said. “The real big thing for us was holding them scoreless in the second. The game kind of went how we wanted it to do.”
The Rams (8-10, 1-2) jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back against the Demons (4-16, 0-4). Portales went deep in the rotation during the second half.
“We were able to pressure them for the whole game,” Gallegos said. “We got a lot of players in, guys who don’t normally get a lot of time to play.”
Gallegos said it was a good defensive game and he was happy with the team performance.
Junior Steven Marquez led Dexter with 10 points.
Portales plays Ruidoso on Thursday to make up a postponed game as a result of last week’s inclement weather.
