ROSWELL — For the Portales girls Friday night, it was second song, same as the first.
The Lady Rams, who blistered overmatched Roswell Goddard 51-10 at home on Saturday, cruised again in Friday’s rematch with a 43-13 victory over the struggling Lady Rockets.
Junior post Macy Mitchell scored 17 points and junior forward Gabby Garcia added 12 for Portales (9-6), which returns to District 4-3A action on Tuesday at Ruidoso.
Lady Rams coach Clay Stout admitted it was a rather hard game to play.
“We played real well early,” he said. “It’s hard to prepare for games like that. You want to get better, but it’s hard on both of us.”
Garcia put in 10 of her points in the first quarter as the Lady Rams opened an 18-2 lead. The margin grew to 28-6 at halftime, with Mitchell scoring eight points in the second period.
Bailey Rogers was the high scorer for Goddard (0-19) with five points.
