Elida's Shealton Veo-Chenault attempts slip between Floyd guard Bree Lancaster, left, and post Ronnie Mendoza during Friday's EPAC girls semifinal.

The Texico Lady Wolverines moved into the finals of the EPAC girls basketball tournament Friday night, cruising to a 63-17 win over Dora at Greyhound Arena on the Eastern New Mexico University campus.

Texico (9-5), the tourney’s top seed, will take on second-seeded Floyd in today’s 7 p.m. championship game after the Lady Broncos (10-2) dispatched Elida 45-29 in the other semifinal contest.

Texico’s suffocating defense held Dora (10-4) to just two first-quarter points and put the Lady Wolverines in complete control. Sophomore guard Jaylyn Cooper had two 3-pointers and outscored the Lady Coyotes by herself with 19 points.

Junior post Kelli Merrick managed five points to lead Dora, which plays Elida (10-3) for third place at 4 p.m. today.

Floyd held a 22-18 halftime lead against its Roosevelt County and District 3-1A neighbor, but outscored the Lady Tigers 16-4 in the third quarter. Junior guard Tori Tucker scored 21 points for the Lady Broncos, including a pair of 3-pointers, while senior Shanna Anthony led Elida with 12 points.

In consolation bracket games on Friday:

• Grady opened a 37-0 halftime lead over House and cruised to a 60-7 victory over the struggling Cowgirls. Junior guard Mandy Rush scored 18 points and junior forward Leanna Aguilar netted 10 points for the Lady Bronchos (7-8), while eighth-grader Josy Sepulveda accounted for all seven points for House (9-10).

• San Jon overcame an eight-point deficit, taking the lead on a 3-point play by junior forward Lindsey Jennings with less than two minutes left in a 37-34 win over Clovis Christian. Senior post Tracy Foote did most of the damage for the Lady Coyotes (5-8) with 24 points, while CCS (2-10) got 11 points each from seniors Jocelyn Swann and Julia Roberts.
