Clovis guard Tucker Martin delivers an entry pass during the Wildcats’ game Monday against Los Lunas. The Wildcats visit Bushland today in a 1:30 p.m. (MST) affair.

Boys
Clovis (5-4) at Bushland (1-2)
When:
1:30 p.m. (MST) today at Amarillo.
Radio: 1240 KCLV-AM 1240, KRMQ-FM 101.5.
Last outing: The Wildcats beat St. Michael’s 52-36 on Wednesday in the third-place game of the Southwest Dairy Farmers Classic at Rock Staubus Gym. The Falcons, in their first game at full strength, posted 60-51 win at Stratford, Texas.
Last meeting: The teams have never faced each other.
Falcons players to watch: Sr. C Crockett Gillmore, 6-6; Sr. G Michael Matthews, 6-2.
Going in: Clovis scouted the Falcons earlier in the season, but most of their hoops squad played for the state Class 2A Division II championship Dec. 19. Bushland lost, finishing a 15-1 season.
The Falcons were playing man-to-man defense early this season, but the interior play of Gillmore, who has signed to play football at Colorado State, means they’ll switch to a zone defense.
Sidelined: Isler said junior guard Deven Crockett will be taking a rest due to turf toe. Crockett played through the injury during the three-game Classic, but Isler said with district play just a month away, the smart move is to make sure their quickest ballhandler is healthy.
“To his credit, he played quite well and he (kept) us in the Bowie game,” Isler said. “You can’t complain about his effort. When he’s 100 percent, we don’t see anybody who can keep him in front of them.”
After the Classic: Though the Wildcats didn’t win their tournament, Isler thought it was good experience for the team.
“We had great crowds,” he said. “It was really good for us to get to play at home. We’ve played some pretty good people. Bowie was an excellent team, and we were right there (though) we had fouled out our posts.”

Girls
Mayfield (8-5) at Clovis (8-2)
When:
4:30 p.m. today at The Rock.
Radio: KCLV-FM 99.1.
Last time out: Both teams played in tournaments this week, ending on Wednesday. The Trojans lost to Las Cruces High 49-39 in the championship game of the Holiday Hoop-La at Las Cruces, while the Lady Wildcats beat Texico 60-41 for third place in the Plateau Holiday Classic at The Rock.
Last meeting: Jan. 3, 2009, CHS’ Ashlee Pierson hit the front end of a two-shot foul with three seconds left to give the Lady Cats a 42-41 win over the Trojans. That avenged a 59-58 loss to Mayfield the year before at The Rock, a game in which the Trojans erased a 24-point, fourth-quarter deficit.
Of note: One of Mayfield’s losses this season was a 51-44 setback to District 4-5A member Carlsbad at Las Cruces on Nov. 20. … Senior Antiesha Brown (70) and Pierson (39) combined for 73 percent of the Lady Cats’ 149 points in this week’s tournament. … Clovis is in the middle of a seven-game homestand. The Lady Cats host unbeaten Canyon, ranked No. 1 in Texas Class 4A, on Tuesday before facing Arizona schools Monument Vallwey and Pinnacle in the New Mexico/Arizona Challenge here next weekend.
