Rio Rancho (5-4) at Clovis (3-3)

Radio: 1240 KCLV AM, KRMQ 101.5 FM.

Last time out: The Rams lost a 59-55 decision Saturday at Highland. The Wildcats lost their second straight, 68-65 at Plainview. “We need to get a win,” Clovis coach J.D. Isler said. “We need to get some confidence.”

Last meeting: The Cats beat the Rams 76-70 at Rio Rancho last January.

Rams players to watch: Sr. PG Lucas Archuleta, 6-2; Sr. G Jeric Magnant, 6-0.

What to watch for: Isler, who scouted the Rio Rancho-Highland game, said the Rams will want to get into a half-court game and have Archuleta carry the scoring load.

“We’ve seen some film where they’ve tried to press, but they really played a 2-3 zone (all night) against Highland,” Isler said. “I think they’d prefer the tempo to be slower. We obviously need to get it going up and down a little bit.”

Isler said junior guard Deven Crockett has been a great presence since joining the Wildcats’ lineup on Friday. Crockett, Isler said, helps quicken the team’s tempo.

The other court: Isler, who is coaching as a result of a court injunction, said there are no hearings coming up in the near future. Isler was suspended for the rest of the season Wednesday by the New Mexico Activities Assocation for charges of recruiting, then subsequently was relieved of coaching duties by Clovis Municipal Schools before an injunction was put in place on Friday to halt both.
