Last game: The Wildcats won 69-36 on Monday at Dumas, Texas. The Cougars were routed by Albuquerque Academy 57-25.
Last meeting: 2009, Clovis won 65-32. The Cougars had just suffered an season-ending injury to point guard Andrew Apodaca.
Early impressions: “We saw them early, about two weeks ago,” Clovis coach J.D. Isler said. “I don’t know if they had all their football players or not. They had a solid team.”
“We’re ranked, so they’re going to be up for us.”
The Wildcats were anywhere from third to sixth in Class 5A in the preseason, depending on which poll you looked at, Isler said, and they’ve gone 3-0 since that point.
Eligibility issues: Isler said while the Wildcats are in Albuquerque, there will be an opportunity to meet with New Mexico Activities Association officials on the status of junior guards Lathan Lieb and Deven Crockett. Both are move-ins — Lieb from Dora, Crockett from Texas.
“I’ve been hoping to get some answers, but I’ve been hoping for that for a week,” Isler said. “Being up there will kind of help us.”
