DUMAS, Texas — Clovis coach J.D. Isler isn’t sure about the last time one of his teams went an entire game without a 3-pointer.
Fortunately, it wasn’t much of a concern for the Wildcats Tuesday— and neither were the Dumas Demons, as Clovis took over early for a 69-36 road win.
D.J. Blackmon and Marcus Slocum each scored 15 points to lead Clovis (3-0), while Landyn Snipes added 12 for a Wildcats team that didn’t look to the perimeter for points.
“We really tried to attack the basket and get our posts involved,” Isler said. “The kids did have a focus on that.”
The Wildcats held a 34-18 halftime lead over the Demons (1-5), and put the game on ice with a 16-8 third quarter.
“Our defense was really good for the most part,” Isler said.
Clovis built a 21-point lead Monday night against Canyon, but saw it cut to six in the fourth quarter.
The only qualm Isler had was with the team’s 15-of-32 night from the free throw line, as he knows closer games are coming.
The Wildcats head back on the road Friday night at Cibola.
