RIO RANCHO — Six-foot freshman Devanne Sours collected 36 kills, including a match-ending tip in the fifth set, to lift Tatum to a 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13 victory over defending champion Fort Sumner on Saturday in the Class 1A state volleyball match at the Santa Ana Star Center.
Sours also had 12 assists and three blocks for the Lady Coyotes (21-4), who took the lead for good 10-9 in the final set on a tip-kill by Sours.
Junior Sarah Stinnett had 26 kills, 15 digs and four aces for the Vixens (21-4), who were looking for their sixth championship since 1996. Junior Masy Miller added 19 kills and 16 digs.
