RUIDOSO — The Portales Lady Rams remained unbeaten in District 4-3A volleyball Tuesday night, coming from behind to edge Ruidoso 25-18, 14-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-12.

Portales coach Ruth Chavez said the Lady Warriors (8-9, 2-2 district) made her team work.

“We played really well in the first game,” Chavez said. “It was a good match. We struggled at times getting in sync, but we plulled through.”

Portales (11-6, 4-0) controlled most of the first game, but struggled with hitting and passing errors as Ruidoso dominated the second set.

Ruidoso gained the upper hand by winning a back-and-forth third set, but the Lady Rams were able to turn it around.

“We got the win, and that’s the most important thing,” Chavez said.

Portales opened a two-game lead in district play.

“This will help us when we go to state, plus winning makes it even better,” Chavez said of Tuesday’s match.

Chavez said senior Jenna Wagner had some good hitting in the first game, senior Amanda Marquez and junior Gabby Garcia had a couple of good defensive stops for the team.
