Difference-makers: Melrose, Hayden Huber scored on 5 runs of 55 and 55 yards and added a 77-yard TD catch. Animas, Gabe Hernandez threw for one TD and ran for another.
Of note: Melrose had allowed 14 points in its first five games.

Difference: The Steers used short touchdown runs by Colby Read and Landry Actkinson and a safety to build a 14-0 halftime lead. Farwell compiled 380 total yards with a balanced attack — 212 on the ground, 168 through the air.
Difference-makers: Read rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, while Actkinson also threw for a score, completing 16-of-25 passes. Senior RB Samuel Overmeyer scored on a 29-yard run in the fourth quarter and finished with 115 yards on the ground for the Yellowjackets.
Of note: The game was virtually penalty free — 2 for 20 yards against Clayton, 1 for 5 against Farwell.

Fort Sumner 29, Loving 17

Loving 0-6, Fort Sumner 4-2
Difference: The Foxes recovered from an 81-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff by the Falcons’ Zane Walker to control most of the game. Fort Sumner scored twice on defense — a 60-yard fumble return by Cqaleb West and an 81-yard interception return by Skylar McMath.
Difference-makers: In addition to his interception return, McMath rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown and also had a 2-point conversion run. P.J. Romo led a balanced Foxes ground attack with 99 yards on 11 carries.
Of note: Six players caught at least one pass for the Falcons, but sophomore QB Michael Martinez was able to complete only 11 of 37 passes in the game.
